I just downloaded some software (Brainwave Generator) that claims to help entrain my brainwaves into desired frequencies.

It does this by emitting (somewhat irritating) sounds through a stereo headphone which by some process I don’t understand gets my brain to ‘adapt’ to the frequency of the sound - supposedly I will be able to get into alpha, beta etc states by listening long enough to the sound.

My question is this:

Is it possible to change the frequency of my brainwaves using sound alone? And if so, does this actually work? ie. Does it help improve my concentration, stress levels or what?
